Grokipedia mockery, pt. 2
Some odds and ends since my last post.
I posted the preliminary numbers on Grokipedia versus Wikipedia text. If you read the last Grokipedia post, there aren't any surprises here -- except perhaps how absolutely massive the differences are.
Someone else on Wikipedia compared the websites that each wiki cites. Grokipedia, unsurprisingly, cites The New York Times, CNN, The Guardian, and Reuters far less often than Wikipedia. However, it cites NPR slightly more often. It cites Reddit and Facebook more often, as noted above, and Google Books way less often. It appears to cite academic studies more often, but this is misleading as Wikipedia's citations are usually to doi.org.
As 404 Media pointed out, Grokipedia sometimes leaks its own "reasoning" in article text. This doesn't happen often -- Grokipedia is now indexed on Google, so you can check for yourself -- but when it does, it is extremely funny. For instance, here's some text from the article on Texas attorney general and Stop the Steal advocate Ken Paxton:
The race was competitive amid Paxton's ongoing securities fraud indictment, but he maintained support in Texas's Republican-leaning electorate. No, don't cite wiki. Remove that. Wait, rephrase: The election occurred during Paxton's facing of felony securities fraud charges from 2015, yet he prevailed narrowly in vote share.
